Alrosa’s Angola Power Plant Ground Breaking
November 10, 03Ground breaking ceremony for Alrosa’s hydroelectric power station on the Chicapa River, Angola is set for tomorrow during the visit of an Alrosa delegation to the country headed by company President Vladimir Kalitin.
The hydroelectric power plant will consists of four units capable of producing 16 megawatt. Alrosa plans to use the plant to provide electricity mostly to the nearby Catoca diamond mine, which its second phase is currently under construction, and bring annual production to $350 million.
At a cost of $45 million, a Russian team headed by general contractor Alrosa-Vneshstroy, a company fully owned by Alrosa, will construct the station.
