Damas to Build Hi-Tech Jewelry Factory in Dubai
May 03, 04Leading United Arab Emirates’ retail jeweler Damas is to expand its operations with the building of a jewelry factory at the Dubai Metals & Commodities Center (DMCC).
The move is part of Damas’ strategy of making high quality, exquisite and modern jewelry designed by leading stylists at the state-of-the-art facility.
Damas has factories in Lebanon, India, Italy, Malaysia, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Bangladesh, China and Dubai.
The aim of the new facility is to manufacture all high-end branded jewelry at the new Dubai factory without competing with any of its foreign and locally made brands.
The four main departments of the new unit will be design, research and project development, diamond cutting, mold making and casting and diamond setting and polishing. Most emphasis will be placed on design, however, with the new unit employing top designers from around the world.
The company says diamond cutting will be carried out by highly skilled cutters and the factory will make the special Damas cut, a unique cut that is patented to the firm.
The estimated cost of the factory is $12 million and annual production output is forecast at around $41 million. The factory is expected to be completed and ready for operation within the next year.
