Dubai Baby Worth His Weight in Gold

Not many people can truly say they are worth their weight in gold no matter how talented or indispensable they may think they are. For the parents of three-month-old Dubai baby Mohammed Arshad, however, their baby is literally worth his weight in the precious metal.

Mohammed's father bought a ticket in his son's name at the Dubai Shopping Festival in January where gold was being heavily promoted and won a top prize of 5 kilograms (11 lb) of gold in the first weekly draw.

Gold is currently trading at around $422 per ounce making Arshad's 5 kilogram prize worth more than $74,000.

“I’ve always believed that my son is lucky and special, so we wrote his name on the ticket," said Mohammed's proud, and considerably richer, father. "By the grace of God he has won this big prize at such a young age. I am sure there will be more winnings for him later.”

The one-kilo a day gold offer ran for the 32 days of the festival and raffle tickets were available in return for the purchase of 500 dirhams ($136) worth of gold jewelry while the purchase of a Commemorative Gold coin of 250 dirhams ($68) gave buyers a chance to win 5 kilos of gold in the weekly draw and entry to a 10 million dirham ($2.7 million) cash prize at the grand draw.
