Gemesis, Diamonds for Humanity Respond to De Beers
March 03, 05The issue of “Conflict Free” lab-made diamonds that was raised by the publication of eco-friendly gifts given to some Oscar participants, caused a lively discussion in the industry. Following is the response of Gemesis and Diamonds for Humanity to comments made by De Beers in the article titled “DB Rejects Gemesis Claims: Diamonds Support African Development” from February 24.
“The headline of the article in IDEX Online was inaccurate. Neither Diamonds for Humanity nor Gemesis have in any way claimed that diamonds have impeded development in Africa.
“The Diamonds for Humanity project intends to move beyond the rhetoric and focus on the important work of providing grants for healthcare and educational programs. Diamonds for Humanity invites all diamond producers to contribute to this effort, as Gemesis has.
"The information Ms Hori, spokesperson for De Beers, refers to was released by Global Green, an environmental organization, not by Diamonds for Humanity or Gemesis.”
