KP Chair: Peer Review Missions Are of Paramount Importance
March 09, 05The chairman of the Kimberley Process, Vyacheslav Shtyrov, visited the New York Diamond Dealers Club (DDC) on Tuesday and held talks with Club Chairman Jacob Banda and board members regarding the on-going changes in the Process.
Along with meeting members of the Club, Shtyrov will also be speaking to
“Procedures in the Process are developing,” noted Shtyrov, emphasizing that verification of the system through peer review missions are of paramount importance to the success of the process.
He also told DDC directors of concerns regarding the statistical data collected by the Process, stating that analysis of statistics regarding the import/export of rough diamonds by member countries must be further consolidated and globally standardized.
A Kimberley Process review committee is slated to visit New York in June.
