Steinmetz has worked with Raikkonen and Montoya to customize their helmets. Kimi, already known for introducing a unique helmet design for the Monaco race each year, has fulfilled his ‘Ice Man’ nickname with this year’s design.
Last year Christian Klien ploughed into the barrier with his diamond studded Jaguar on his first lap at the Monaco Grand Prix. The $200,000 un-insured Steinmetz-supplied gem, set in the race car’s nose cone, was never recovered.

The two drivers will wear the sparkling helmets for just one race. After the race, the helmets will be auctioned with the proceeds going to charities chosen by the drivers and the Team McLaren Mercedes team.
It took the makers three months to make the helmets, set with round brilliant diamonds, designed by Uffe Tagstrom and Troy Lee.
