Abbey Chikane Appointed CEO of SA State Diamond Trader

The first Chairman of the Kimberley Process, Abbey Chikane, has been appointed as the new CEO of the South African State Diamond Trader (SDT). Although the appointment has not been officially announced, it has been confirmed by government sources.
The State Diamond Trader will buy 10 percent of South Africa’s diamond production, selling it to local South African polishers.
Chikane is also a vice president and founder of Gemini Consulting, a sub-Saharan company that deals in diamond trading. He holds a masters degree in economic development and a postgraduate qualification in international business.
In related news, Louise Selekane has been appointed the South African Diamond and Precious Metals Regulator.
