Diavik Production 3.3 Million Carats in Q2
August 07, 07Approximately 3.3 million carats of diamonds were recovered from the Diavik diamond mine during the second quarter compared with about 2.7 million carats in the second quarter of last year.
The jump in output brought first half of the year to almost 5.9 million carats. According to mine operator DDMI, this is well ahead of the current plan and principally the result of higher recovery of diamonds per ton of ore.
According to Aber, a 40 percent stakeholder in the mine, the increase in diamond recovery is a combination of improvements to the processing circuit to enhance the recovery of small diamonds as well as, to a lesser extent, recovery of larger stones that were not anticipated.
