Jewelry and Electronics Best Promotional Items for Black Friday
November 25, 07Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, is the biggest shopping day of the year. Retailers often offer major promotional sales to get consumers out of the house on this cold November morning and into the crowded stores, and this year was no exception.
According to the National Retail Federation (NRF) the best promotions were on electronics, jewelry, clothing and toys, as anticipated.
In addition to offering promotions on high-ticket items like high-definition televisions and diamond necklaces, retailers also chose to highlight lower-priced merchandise like digital photo frames and sterling silver jewelry, which were especially popular because of the low prices.
NRF President and CEO Tracy Mullin commented, “Though retailers are anticipating a challenging holiday season, they are encouraged by the enthusiasm that their Black Friday sales generated.”
NRF estimates that holiday sales will rise 4 percent this year to $474.5 billion.
In addition to shopping in malls and stand-alone retail stores, consumers are also expected to flood retailers’ websites this Monday, dubbed Cyber Monday. According to Shop.org, a division of NRF, 72.2 percent of online retailers are planning a special promotion for Cyber Monday, up from 42.7 percent just two years ago.
