India Polished Diamond Imports Up 112% in September

Amidst the unfolding financial crisis, India exported $1.431 billion (Rs. 61.732 billion) worth of polished diamonds in September, a 17.65 percent year-over-year increase. Imports of polished diamonds in September soared 112.37 percent to $726.1 million (Rs. 31.77 billion).
In volume, polished diamond exports totaled 4.128 million carats, rising 15.99 percent from the year before. The average value of exports rose a miniscule 1.43 percent to $346.57 per carat.
Imports of polished diamonds rose 1.94 percent in volume to 1.765 million carats, averaging $411.38 p/c.
Net polished diamond trade in September was $704.9 million for 2.363 million carats, an average of $298.31 p/c.
