Belgium’s Rough Diamond Exports Softens in April
May 16, 10Belgium exported $608.8 million worth of rough diamonds in April, a 46.8 percent increase compared to April 2009 and an 11.5 percent decline compared to March of this year. The volume of exports totaled 10.43 million carats.
Rough diamond imports reached $900 million on shipments of 10.1 million carats, according to figures published by Antwerp World Diamond Centre (AWDC). Imports shot up 125.9 percent in value and 90.1 percent in volume compared to April 2009. Compared to March 2010, imports rose 5.4 percent in value and declined 0.3 percent in volume.
In the first four months of 2010, Belgium’s gross exports totaled $3.23 billion worth of rough diamonds, and imports stood at $3.30 billion.
