Botswana Diamond Exports $233.6M in April

Botswana exported $233.6 million worth of diamonds in April, according to the latest figures released by the Bank of Botswana. In the first four months of 2010, the country exported $710.4 million in diamonds.
Botswana mainly exports rough diamonds, however, as part of a beneficiation agreement with De Beers, there are now a number of polishing facilities in the country that manufacture locally mined goods. The export figures include exports of polished diamonds.
In the first quarter of 2010 Botswana exported $476.9 million worth of diamonds, 101.2 percent more than in the first quarter of 2009, but 48.4 percent less than in the first quarter of 2008.
