The two day conference will be attended by presidents and ministers from producing countries such Angola, Botswana, South Africa and Canada, delegates from managers of mining companies, retail and luxury brands such as Signet, Blue Nile and Pandora, as well as heads of the global diamond industry. Gareth Penny is expected to make his last public address before leaving his role as De Beers CEO.
Other attendants in what will be the only conference of its kind this year include the heads of ABN AMRO diamond unit, Antwerp diamond Bank and SBI as well as DTC’s Varda Shine and Rio Tinto’s Jean Marc Lieberherr.
“Time has come to establish India as a brand to reckon with in the gem and jewelry sector,” said GJEPC Chairman Vasant Mehta, who is also promoting the Made in India initiative to improve consumer perception of India’s manufacturing skills.
