Botswana Diamond Exports Spike in August

(IDEX Online News) - Botswana exported $290.9 million worth of diamonds in August, shooting up 360.3 percent year over year, according to data released today (Tuesday) by the Bank of Botswana.

In the first eight months of 2010, Botswana exported $1.83 billion worth of diamonds, rising 60.3 percent compared to the January-August period of 2009.

The sharp rise in diamond exports comes after a slump in exports in the June and July, which fell below the export levels in the corresponding months of 2009.
