Antwerp Rough Exports Rise in September

Gross exports of 8.8 million carats worth $837.6 million, increased 43.7 percent in volume and 50.9 percent in value month over month. Year over year, exports increased 15.8 percent and 9.5 percent respectively. The average value of gross exports increased to $94.51 p/c from $89.97 in August and $75.12 p/c in September 2009.

Rough diamond imports of 9 million carats worth $749.9 million declined 23.1 percent in volume and 18.5 percent from August, while year over year imports increased 16.8 percent and 11.5 percent respectively.

The average value of imports in September was $107.59 p/c, rising from $101.49 p/c in August and $79.97 a year ago.

In the first nine months of 2010, Belgium exported $8.08 billion worth of rough diamonds and imported $7 billion worth of goods - a net export of $1.08 billion, 73.2 percent increase from 2009.
