GJEPC Focuses on Brand India

October 10, 11 by Vinod Kuriyan

(IDEX Online News) – The major thrust of India’s Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) is to build “Brand India," the organization said in an overview of the past year and the year ahead.

Among the high points of things to come, the GJEPC said in a briefing in the diamond-processing city of Surat, was the Indo-China buyer-seller meet to be held in Beijing this November. The meet is “an effort to provide a bridge between leading members of the Indian gem and jewelry industry with their Chinese counterparts to forge winning partnerships that blend the immense talent prevalent in the respective countries.”

The GJEPC also pointed to the first-ever mines-to-market conference for colored gemstones, that is slated to run in Jaipur over November 2 and 3. Based on the format of its successful mines-to-market conferences for diamonds, this initiative brings together stakeholders in the colored gemstone sector from all over the world.

At the conference, stakeholders in different parts of the process pipeline get a better understanding of the viewpoints of those upstream or downstream of them.

The GJEPC also noted that at the IIJS Signature 2012 show, scheduled for January 6 to 9 next year, emphasis will be laid on building up the India brand in gems and jewelry. Steps towards achieving this included the already unveiled new GJEPC logo and the other initiatives that were designed to position India as the complete gem and jewelry hub for the global market.
