Per Carat Price of Antwerp’s Imports and Exports Drops Again in January
February 09, 12(IDEX Online News) – The per carat (p/c) price of Antwerp’s imports and exports declined for the second month in a row in January 2012. The average price for polished exports in January 2012 was $1,749 p/c compared to an average price of $1,837 p/c in December 2011. In January 2011, this figure stood at $1,357 p/c.
Despite the drop in the price of goods per carat, the value of polished diamond exports increased by almost 1 percent – 0.93 percent – in January to $819.934.022 compared to January 2011. By volume, there was, however, a 21.7 percent decline to 468.858 carats.
In terms of polished diamond imports, Belgium brought in 776.344 carats, a drop of 8 percent from January 2011 but an 18.5 percent rise in value to $1.16 billion.
By value, rough diamond exports decreased 4.82 percent to $986.144.101 compared to January 2011. In terms of volume, the center experienced a 28.47 percent fall to 8.121.943 carats.
Rough diamond imports of 7.67 million carats, worth $1.05 billion, were down 27.7 percent by volume over January 2011, but only 0.5 percent in value over January 2011.
