Gold Sourcing, Ethics and Due Diligence at Basel Industry Briefing
February 15, 12(IDEX Online News) – Issues of gold sourcing and ensuring their ethical origins will be at the heart of an industry briefing that will be held at the Baselworld trade show in March.
According to the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC) and London Bullion Market Association (LBMA) that will run the session, initiatives such as the OECD Due Diligence Guidance and Section 1502 of the U.S. Dodd-Frank Act are raising the question "Do you know where your gold comes from?"
Fiona Solomon, Director of Standards Development at RJC and Ruth Crowell, Commercial Director at LBMA will speak at the session, and address the following points:
- Why conflict-sensitive sourcing has become important, and the role of refiners;
- The LBMA Responsible Gold Guidance: what it means for gold refiners and their customers in the watch and jewelry supply chain;
- The RJC Chain-of-Custody Standard: what it means for gold refiners and how the standard addresses both conflict-sensitive sourcing and responsible business practices through the supply chain;
- Connections between industry initiatives.
The presentations will be take place at 2 pm, March 8, 2012 at the
