Antwerp Gross Polished Exports Drop 32.3% in March
April 11, 12(IDEX Online News) – The volume Antwerp’s gross polished diamond exports dropped by some 32.3 percent in March compared to March 2011, according to figures released by the Antwerp World Diamond Centre (AWDC) today (Tuesday).
In 2011, the center saw polished diamond exports of 970,516.14 carats, a figure that dropped to 652,916.33 carats last month.
By value, however, the Belgian center’s level of exports rose a decent 5.83 percent year-over-year from $1.303 billion to $1.379 billion
In terms of polished diamond imports, the center saw a drop in both the value and the volume of goods imported in March.
By volume, polished imports fell from 959,954.31 carats in March 2011 to 734,565.51 carats, a tumble of 23.48 percent.
The value drop was much less substantial, falling 2.62 percent over the same period last year.
This meant that the volume of polished imports dropped from $1.338 billion to $1.303 billion.
