(IDEX Online News) – Along with the global decline in polished diamonds, Israel's polished diamond trade is also suffering from a decline. However, compared to April, trade jumped forward, partially as traders were getting ready for the Las Vegas shows.
In May, Israel's net polished diamond exports fell 8.2 percent year-over-year to $1.04 billion, based on figures released by the Central Bureau of Statistics.
Compared to April, net exports more than doubled, up 118.2 percent.
The Las Vegas trade shows do not fully explain the month-to-month increase. It is possible that some of the increased exports were directly to buyers, most likely in the U.S.
In the first five months of 2012, Israel's net polished diamond exports totaled $3.33 billion, a 6.3 percent decline.
