NJN: Sotheby's NY to Auction Wrightsman Collection

(IDEX Online News) – Sotheby’s will hold a sale of Magnificent Jewels from the Collection of Mrs. Charles Wrightsman here on December 5, offering more than 60 lots ranging from 19th century diamond pieces to contemporary designs by JAR.

“Included are designs from Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, Verdura, Bulgari, Tiffany & Co., Boucheron, Fred Leighton and JAR,” Lisa Hubbard, chairman of Sotheby’s North and South America international jewelry division, said. “Each piece is interesting in its own right, with many fashioned to her personal specifications by her jewelers of choice, and all crafted for effect.”

The highlight of the auction is a natural pearl and diamond corsage ornament (below) featuring three Golconda-type diamonds, weighing 8.67 carats, 8.78 carats and 9.59 carats, made circa 1910. The piece has a pre-sale high estimate of $1.2 million.
