Huw Daniel to Replace James Courage as PGI CEO
January 21, 15 (IDEX Online News) – Huw Daniel is to take over from James Courage as Global CEO of Platinum Guild International (PGI). Courage is retiring at the end of April. Daniel has been president of PGI USA for the past 12 years.
PGI is relocating its head office from London to Hong Kong in a move that reflects the growing importance of platinum demand in Asia. As a result of the relocation, PGI’s head office will be closer to the two main markets of China and Japan and the fast growing Indian market, which together represent 85 percent of total consumer jewelry.
“The Platinum Guild’s move to Hong Kong and the appointment of Huw Daniel recognizes the importance of platinum jewelry in Asia, along with continuity of leadership from within the PGI,” said Andrew Hinkly, executive head of Platinum Marketing at Anglo Platinum, which along with Impala Platinum and Lonmin is a member of the Jewellery Development Association (PJDA), which represents the major platinum producers and sponsors PGI.
“Jewelry represents over a third of total platinum demand and we, as the main producers, recognize the importance of continuing to invest substantially in its future development and to work even more closely with leading retailers and manufacturers in the four PGI markets,”
Following the new appointment, Jenny Luker will become president of PGI USA. She has served as senior vice president since 2005.
