Gahcho Kué 94-Percent Complete and On-Target for H2 2016 First Production
May 10, 16(IDEX Online News) – Mountain Province Diamonds recently announced that the Gahcho Kué diamond mine is progressing according to plan and is now 94-percent complete.
The Gahcho Kué project is a joint venture between Mountain Province Diamonds, which holds a 49-percent stake, with the remainder belonging to De Beers Canada. It is claimed to be the world’s largest new diamond mine and consists of a cluster of four diamondiferous kimberlites, three of which are thought to contain a probable mineral reserve of 55.5 million carats of diamonds.
"We continue to make excellent progress at Gahcho Kué. Mechanical completion has been achieved at the process plant and truck shop and we are on schedule to achieve mechanical completion of the primary crusher during the current quarter,” said Mountain Province president and CEO Patrick Evans.
The company also announced that it is on schedule to begin production during the second quarter of 2016.
