India’s April Polished Diamond Exports +9%
May 24, 16(IDEX Online News) – India’s polished diamond exports recorded a substantial 8.85-percent increase in April, according to preliminary data released by the Gem and Jewelry Export Promotion Council (GJEPC).
Cut and polished diamond exports by value, increased to $1.78 billion during April compared to $1.64 billion over the same month a year previously. The number of carats exported increased, up from 252,400 in April 2015 to 260,100 in 2016.
Imports of rough diamonds rose significantly, showing a 37.22-percent increase by value, to $1.88 billion compared to $1.37 billion a year previously. A year-over-year analysis showed that rough imports increased 27.55 percent by volume, 154, 050 carats compared to 111,610 carats in April 2015.
Rough exports by value fell to $86.14 million compared to $111.83 million in April 2015 – a 23-percent decrease.
Exports of colored gemstones declined to $22.33 million compared to $25.49 million in April 2015, which represents a 12.4-percent decline.
India exported $7.76 million worth of synthetic stones during April, down slightly from $8.38 million in April 2015.
Gold jewelry exports by value increased a substantial 50.28 percent to $735 million compared to $626 million in April 2015. Silver jewelry exports jumped 154 percent to $300 million compared to $122.2 million over the same month in 2015.
