GIA Jewelry Career Fair Draws 600 Participants
August 01, 16(IDEX Online News) – Gem and jewelry industry members recently met with prospective colleagues at the Gemological Institute of America’s (GIA) Jewelry Careers Fair in New York.
The annual event, which is sponsored by Jewelers of America (JA) New York, drew around 600 participants, including personalities, GIA students, recruiters and jewelry enthusiasts to the Javits Center. Job seekers had the opportunity to meet with 42 companies looking to fill hundreds of open positions and 24 career coaches with specialized expertise.
Several industry experts spoke to the job seekers, including Christie’s international head of jewelry and GIA graduate Rahul Kadakia, who spoke about job success in today’s market; Reed Jewelry Group senior vice president Yancy Weinrich encouraged them to learn the business; and founder and chief creative director for LAGOS, Steven Lagos said that passion was important in the business.
