ALROSA Becomes Newest RJC Member
August 17, 16(IDEX Online News) – ALROSA has announced that it recently became a member of the Responsible Jewelry Council (RJC), further strengthening the international not-for-profit organization.
ALROSA has joined more than 800 other companies, including well-known large diamond mining companies such as De Beers, Dominion Diamond Corporation, Rio Tinto and Lucara Diamond, as RJC members.
"Consumers around the world are giving great importance to the origin of diamonds in jewellery,” said ALROSA vice president Andrey Polyakov. “We believe it is important to demonstrate to the consumer that diamond mining is a socially responsible business that creates jobs, supports local communities and cares about the environment. ALROSA has always adhered to high standards of corporate social responsibility and is ready to prove it in the audit process.”
RJC executive director Andrew Bone welcomed ALROSA’s membership of the organization, particularly its enthusiasm to demonstrate business transparency and its compliance with international best practice. He added that the certification of ALROSA against the RJC Code of Practices will provide further evidence of the diamond industry’s efforts to adhere to the highest standards of responsible business.
