Lucapa Reports Record Results From Lulo Mine in Third Quarter
October 13, 16(IDEX Online) – The Lucapa Diamond Company reports record results from its Lulo mine in Botswana in the third quarter of this year.
There was record production of 8,853 carats in the period – a 154% increase on the same quarter last year, the miner said in a statement.
Output for the quarter included a record 137 'specials' – stones larger than 10.8 carats, weighing a total of 3,210 carats.
Among them were Type IIa D color white stones weighing 173 carats and 104 carats, and a pink stone weighing 39 carats.
The quarter also saw a record set for the average size of diamonds uncovered (1.9 carats) and average diamond grade (13.7 carats per 100 cubic meters).
