ALROSA to Increase Diamond Production by 5% in 2017 to 38.85M Carats

December 01, 16 by Albert Robinson

(IDEX Online) – Russian diamond miner ALROSA plans to increase diamond production by 5% on this year to 38.85 million carats in 2017, according to a report by TASS.

The comments were made by company president Andrey Zharkov on Rossiya 24 TV channel in an interview broadcast on Wednesday.

"The plans that we form today for 2017 envisage an approximately 5% increase in mining, if we are talking about the ALROSA company," Zharkov said. This year, the company aimed to mine 37 million carats.

Zharkov added that the company does not expect global output of diamonds to increase by more than 10% in the next 2-3 years.
