Russian Investigators Begin Inquiry Into Alrosa Mine Flood; 8 Still Missing
August 09, 17(IDEX Online) – A criminal investigation has been started to look into a flooding incident last Friday at ALROSA’s Mir diamond mine by the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation. Rescue teams are still searching for eight workers at the mine.
The investigators will be checking if safety rules were breached, according to a Russian report.
ALROSA said the accident took place after water entered the underground mine.
Although rescuers have brought out 143 miners, a further eight are still being sought, with hundreds of people taking part in the effort.
ALROSA said following the incident that the underground mine had been “operating in full compliance with all technical and safety requirements” at the time of the flooding.
