Lucapa Recovers fourth +100-carat Diamond at Mothae

December 16, 20 by John Jeffay

(IDEX Online) - Lucapa has announced the recovery of an exceptional 101-carat diamond at its Mothae mine, in Lesotho.

The Type IIa stone has been measured as D color and is the fourth +100 carat diamond recovered from the southern lobe of the mine's kimberlite pipe since operations started in January 2019.

The Australian miner, which partners with the Lesotho government, said it looked forward to recovering proportionately more diamonds of such size and quality when it completes capacity expansion early next year.

Last week Lucapa said that in Angola it had recovered its 16th +100-carat diamond from the alluvial Lulo project since commercial operations began there five years ago.
