India Gem Institute Plans Diamond Research Lab
November 03, 04The Gemological Institute of India (GII) is planning to establish a state-of-the-art research and development laboratory for diamond grading and gem testing.
The laboratory will be equipped to identify all types of synthetic diamonds as well as treatments on diamonds and gemstones.
The plan also calls for the teaching of advanced scientific and technical knowledge of gemstones, particularly regarding diamonds, colored stones, pearls and jewelry, and for it to develop into a national center for research studies on gemstones.
The GII said it has signed a memorandum of understanding for collaboration with the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council, the Bharat Diamond Bourse, the Diamond Exporters’ Association Ltd and the Gem & Jewellery Exporters’ Association.
