India’s Diamond Exports Grows to $6.267 Billion in H1
October 19, 05India exported cut and polished diamonds worth $6,265.72 million during the April-September period, the first half of the 2005-06 financial year, growing 23.91 percent compared to $5,056.55 million last year. Total gem and jewelry exports during the period were $8,391.91 million, growing 20.73 percent.
According to provisional figures released by the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) of India, the country exported 11,846,000 carats of cut and polished diamonds during the first six months of the financial year.
Exports of colored gemstones showed a growth of 8.62 percent rising to $109.21 million from $100.54 million in the corresponding period last year.
According to GJEPC Chairman, Bakul R. Mehta, “Looking at the performance, we are confident of achieving the set target of $18 billion for this financial year”.
Gold jewelry exports stood at $1,644.56 million compared to $1,575.47 million in the same period last year marking a growth of 4.39 percent.
