GIA to Offer Program Scholarships Totaling More Than $500,000
February 18, 16(IDEX Online News) – The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) has announced that prospective students for its courses will be able to apply for more than 125 scholarships, totaling in excess of $500,000.
The scholarships will be made available for GIA’s Gemology and Jewelry Manufacturing Arts programs, courses and lab classes. They also include long-distance eLearning courses and for the institute’s campuses in Bangkok, Hong Kong, Carlsbad, Dubai, London, Mumbai, Taiwan and New York.
The GIA will offer two full scholarships each in honor of the institute’s luminaries, former GIA president Richard T. Liddicoat, former GIA vice president Bert Krashes and the institute’s first female gemologist Eunice Miles. One full scholarship is for the on-campus graduate gemologist program and another toward the distance education graduate gemologist program.
Other scholarships include the 2016 Tawfic Farah Memorial Scholarship, which will award full tuition for an on-campus student in Taiwan to pursue their GG diploma. The GIA Scholarship for U.S. Veterans will award scholarships of up to $1,500 each for Distance Education courses, programs or lab classes. Kara Ross, Tiffany & Co., and William Goldberg Diamond Co. will each offer a $10,000 scholarship toward a gemology course or program.
The Kazanjian will award two $10,000 scholarships for any course, and preference will be given to those applicants without family members in the jewelry industry.
Since 2013, the GIA has awarded nearly 1,000 students more than $3.5 million in scholarships, funded by the institute’s endowment fund and private donations.

The application period will begin on March 1 and run through April 30.
