Jewelers Mutual to Debut Immersive Technologies at LUXURY, JCK Las Vegas

May 29, 16 by David Brummer

(IDEX Online News) – Jewelers Mutual Insurance (JMI) has announced that it will unveil three new technologies during the Intervision Salon at Luxury, Elite Enclave, and throughout JCK Las Vegas.

Jewelers Mutual has partnered with Excelion Partners to offer these innovations: the JM Journey App, a holographic technology branded as Holojem, and the IoT (Internet of Things) Connected Display case.

The JM Journey App, available for download on iOS and Android, is one of the first mobile applications developed specifically for the jewelry market. LUXURY and JCK Las Vegas attendees who download the app will be encouraged to take part in a scavenger hunt, with participants having an opportunity to win prizes with each “virtual diamond” found at a specific show location.

Holojem has been selected as a 2016 JCK Think Tank Finalist and is designed to enable jewelers to combine digital shopping and in-store experiences. It uses 3D holographic projection and allows jewelers to share their designs with customers.

The Internet of Things was designed by Faubion Associates with additional access controls by DGA Security and includes smash-resistant glass with an embedded vibration sensor. The technology detects vibrations above a certain level and notifications of incident type and time will be sent to staff, owners and authorities. With an increase in smash and grab crimes it is hoped that the case will help to apprehend or deter criminals.

Jewelers Mutual and Excelion have also developed inconspicuous sensors to act as digital security guards, detecting patterns in movement, light, weight, temperature, humidity and pressure. The sensors can also be used to monitor the number of items taken out of the display case at the same time or the required items needed to be put in the safe at night.

“We are honored to be participating in Intervision,” said Jewelers Mutual Insurance Company director of corporate development Benjamin DeBoer. “The new technologies we are debuting bridge the gap digital and physical shopping experiences, providing a memorable experience for tech-savvy consumers.”
